  1. Installing Fuel Cooler on 6-71

I'm servicing all HX's this winter and had a question regarding the fuel cooler. Now that the fuel had been drained from the cooler do I need to manually reprime it with fresh diesel or will the engine recharge the line on it's own?

  2. Exclamation Blister Repair

There are many posts here on blister repair, many of them NOT FACTUAL. That is, much of the information is inaccuarate!! There is only ONE way to insure a bottom is ready for repair after stripping, blister removal, or whatever: a moisture meter. Hotvac, while a potentially accelerated way to...

  3. Exclamation DC System Design

When your charging source ( amps) is properly matched to your battery bank capacity (amp hours), and your battery bank capacity to your daily load in amp hours, you can reduce genny run time to a minimum. This is VERY valuable for long term cruising away from shorepower because a balanced dc...

  4. Gulfstream Yacht Service

As kids we all think our dad's are the best in the world. I just recently turned 25 (sure i'm still a kid compared to most on this site) and I still think my old man is the best. His name is Buddy Smith, owner of Gulfstream Yacht Service Inc. based in New Bern, NC. I've been told by those who...

  5. Cockpit bait prep freezer

My 45 has in it a bait prep center that was designed for the series 1 46Cs. Steve McPherson remembers the units. In the center is a sub-zero freezer. The freezer has died ... I have a replacement refrigerator/freezer. Problem is ... I can't get the freezer out. I have removed the door and the...

  6. Is this right?

I have recently met a friend who has the same boat as mine, which is a 53 motor yacht. Its powered by 8V71s natural. His is twin turbo, both the same year. He said that his boat will plane at 2200 RPM and do close to 18 knots. My Question is I'am not sure what degree pitch props I have but I know...

  7. Exclamation Engine Alarm Additions

Besides the traditional water temp, oil pressure, and transmission oil pressure alarms, here are a few ideas to take better care of your babies. Consider these for your genny(s) too. Salt Water flow Alarms: These are basically a flow valve with magnetic senser and wire leads added to your engine...

  9. Anybody with Stabilizers on a 53MY...

Can you post (or email me ) a pic or two of what the installation looks like in the engine rooms? We are considering having them installed and I'd like to get an idea of how much of an obstruction they are within the engine areas. Niiad seem to be the standard but the Wesmars sound pretty good...

  14. Ethanol's Cousin, Diesel Sulphur

I have heard that the Fed's have promulgated, as only they can, new rules regarding the formulation of diesel fuel in 2006, that greatly reduces its sulphur content and with it also drastically reduces the lubricity inherent in diesel fuel, i.e. supposedly leading to much higher wear rates in the...
