  1. Engine Room Heater

I keep my '76 43 DC on Kentucky Lake. It's out of the water getting bottom painted now. Should be done in a couple of weeks. Question is: with such a short winter period left by the time I get the boat back in the water, I'd rather not winterize the engines & gen. DD 671 & Northern Lights. Would...

  2. Replacing Jabsco Heads

I will be replacing my two Jabsco electric flush heads this spring. I have looked at the SeaLand Vacuflush and the Tecma Silence Plus heads. I am leaning towards the Tecma. Has any one had experience with either head from the stand point of installation, & maintenance. Any input would be greatly...

  3. Radar/plotter

My Raytheon 20XX radar (4KW open array) is out of order and I am thinking about upgrading to the new color LCD combination units instead of repairing the 13 year old unit. I reviewed the thread back in July and was wondering if anyone has feedback on the new Raymarine C or E series 80, 120 or...

  6. Dash light dimmer

I need some help with figuring out a dimmer for my dash lights . The rheostat burned out . I looked up the spec's and found it was supposed to be 32V,500 ohm,5W. Bought one and put it in. It just turns the lights on and off. Then I checked the voltage and found someone had converted the dash lights...

  7. Power Cord Question

I am looking to replace my shoreline power cord on my 48C, and was suprised to see only a three wire cord. It is the 240v/50a main power cord rigged through the Glendining. Shouldn't that cord have a ground? It is wired with 2 120's, and a negitive. All the replacement cords look like that they...

I have the original A/C systems on my 1970 44'Hatt Tricabin. It has 2 16,000 BTU units, one of which is split to the forward and aft cabin. They have been giving me trouble for several years and don't do a great job cooling, especially since our move to N Ft Myers. I know one reason is our...

  9. Generator loading - I don't buy it

This occured to me while reading the current generator thread I have always heard that generators should be loaded to 70-80 percent for best longevity. But I'm trying to see a reason this should be true and I can't find one. Using this logic, all engines should be run at 70-80% for best...

Would you have any thought on oil filters for the Velvet Drive model 10-18-008 at 2.57:1. There is a screen filter in the base of the transmission at the oil return. Would there be a need for an in line oil filter for the transmissions? Would there be a brand and model for this. Would an...

  12. Electrical GFCI breakers and outlets

When I installed a shorepower outlet at my dock, city codes required that it be protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) circuit breaker. So I did, and shorepower on the boat worked fine. Later when my boat was surveyed, the surveyor said that I had to install GCFI protected...

Hi, I was a research scientist at 3M about 30 years ago. Bell labs was looking for a contact spray-lubricant. I developed a lube that proved 20 yr. reliability. Not much was done by 3M with this product, so I am now thinking that this might be a good product for the marine industry. The...

  15. Negative comments

gentlemen, let's avoid negative comments directly naming vendors, dealers, etc... it creates possible liability issues and a risk of lawsuit. I need to get smarter about problems with "risers". Is this just a saltwater problem? How do you know when it is time to replace? What changes and why?
