  1. Standard Horizon Backs their Warranties

Standard Horizon stands firmly behind their warranties. I am so happy with them I am making this post in addition to a thank you note to them. I have a 3 year old Standard Horizon Chartplotter on my flybridge that began having intermittant problems which now seem mor permanent. The screen had...

  2. Fresh Water Leaks

I just recommisioned the fresh water system on my 56 MY. For the first time in 8 years, I have fresh water leaks. Given the relatively limited pressure in the fresh water system, will cutting the copper pipe and putting a rubber hose between the two ends to stop the leak work (with hose clamps on...

  4. Battery Box Demolition 1985 32SF

Okay, I finally got to the battery box demolition project that has been on the todo list since I bought the boat. I knew the wood that housed the batteries was deteriorated in spots to the point I could push my finger through it if I wanted to...its that soft. Anyhow, my Dad took the honors of...

  5. Hatteras 48 Convertible

Greetings from Greece. I am faced with the opportunity to purchase a Hatteras 48 Convertible (1989, Detroits 735HP, hard top, etc). I am currently a Bertram owner, which makes the transition / upgrade all the more difficult. In addition, the fact that I am in Greece has limited the selection of...

  6. 53MY side door locks

Anybody know of a better method to lock the side doors than the oem latch? I'd like to put something on that is more secure, easy to use, and not unsightly. The oem latch when locked can be easily jerked open by an 8 year old. I don't want to use a padlock and hasp. Is there anything else?

  7. Spray Control

Salt water residue on decks and windows drives me nuts. Can any Hatts run over 15 knots or so without spray getting on board?? Does greater forward flare on newer boats keep more spray off?? The major reason I began cruising at 10 or 11 knots instead of 16 or so was absence of spray onboard. I...

  9. 37C advice

Hi.I need to R&R the center tank fuel fill and waste deck fitting/pumpout, port side on a 1979 37C. Do I have to remove the rectangular air vent box on the hull to get access to the clamps? (probably should put in slane vents while I'm at it ;) ) Where are the macerator pumps usually located in the...

  10. 1980's vintage tank level guages

There are mechanical fuel/water level guages located on the bronze fitting plates on both of my fuel tanks and on the water tank. The level indicators are about 2" in dia. with a hex nut shaped outer ring. They look like they just screw into the tank and could be removed for cleaning, repair or...

  11. Deck Plate Access

To fill the coolant on my port engine (43 DC with 6-71N's), I have to remove the ladder, move a chair, lift a heavy deckplate and slide another deckplate out from under the ice maker. It's a PITA. I am thinking of cutting a 4 x 6 inch access in the existing deckplate to make filling the coolant...

  13. New batteries are in.

I just got back from removing and replacing four 8D batteries. I imagine that the next time I have to do this, I will not do it solo. I'm going to ache for a week. But, at least they're in, and I won't have to worry about them 70 miles out this season. I wound up going with the NAPA commercial...

  14. Question Swapping Out Engines

I have purchased a 1975 46 foot HAT which I am restoring and would like to rebuild/replace the current Detroit 8v71TIs. I have found replacement engines from Diesel Specialist out of Baton Rouge. 15. another warm engine

OK, here goes...one of my engines (port) is running a bit warm at 2400 revs. They are CAT 3116s. Last year I had a temp problem with the starboard one, which turned out to be a sticking thermostat. This is different- when I back off the revs, the temp comes back down. By a bit warm I mean 195 or...

  16. Brass - Stainless Compatibility

Need to reattach a bronze (brass?) hold down plate in the bilge. It's not submerged in seawater. Originally secured with a bronze 1/4' bolt & nut. The nut vibrated off and is now lost. My neighborhood hardware store does not carry brass fasteners but said stainless & Bronze are compatible. I...

  18. Vented loop thoughts?

I have some 1990 vintage Hatteras with vented loops in some of the toilet hoses. They are made of bronze elbows and tee fittings with a "Scott Marine" white plastic vent with a spring inside. Over the years they have leaked some nasty stuff and caused some corrosion on the aluminum rubber...
