Power to the unit is normal but exit power to the sender is not. Any suggestion on how to remedy the situation will be greatly appreciated. Witold

  4. LCD Replacements, Simrad and FloScan

The LCD screens on both my upper and lower Simrad autopilots had darkened to unreadability even though I had always placed the stock Simrad white plastic covers on them while stored. Other than that they worked fine. Extensive internet searching located Dan Gerhardt, 35 Michael Way, in the famous...

I am in need of certification of my CO2 system in both the engine room and Genset area. Does anyone have a recommendation for the LI Sound area ( Long Island side ). Seems that many inspection companies are not doing CO2. Thanks, M/V August 20th

  7. Coal tar epoxy

OK, last fall when we got pulled, we had the blisters blasted off & the boat has been in inside heated storage all winter, so everything is good & dried out. Now is the time for a barrier coat. Our marina is recommending coal tar epoxy rather than a 2 part epoxy barrier coat and bottom paint. ...

  9. PEX for water and/or waste hoses?

Sorry if this has been posted already, but SAM's does not allow 3 letter searches so I can't tell if PEX tubing has been discussed. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has replaced the "clear reinforced vinyl hose", copper pipe and/or PVC waste lines using PEX. I would think it would be a great...

  10. Lithium Battery Safety Concerns?

I have been considering installing a dedicated battery bank for my flybridge electronics and was exploring the possibility of going with one or more marine lithium batteries. Ideally, I was considering constructing a compartment on the flybridge to house them. My main concern (other than them...

  11. 8v71ti Compression Test Protocol

A well respected Detroit Diesel Surveyor advised me that DD compression tests are performed with the engine at a minimum of 140 degrees, and running at 600 RPM's. If this is indeed correct, then a compression test performed with the engine at 100 degrees will yield incorrect readings. What say the...

A friend and fellow Hatteras owner and I put a minimum order in for the shifter and throttle stickers. The minimum order was $250. We would like to try to recoup some of the investment by selling them to you at cost. If you buy eight for $24 and add one more dollar for shipping that will cover our...

  13. 1981 43c lifting strakes or larger trim tabs?

Our 43c is pretty stern heavy and I am trying to find the best way to flatten out the ride and so I donít have to run with my tabs all the way down. With close to 500 gal of diesel and other things that have been added to the aft of the boat, she rides pretty bow high. Both fuel tanks are under the...

  15. Hynautic Steering Issue

There's more going on but I don't want to over complicate it. Short version is that a new autopilot pump was installed, and as a result I had no steering, or more correctly, sketchy steering at lower helm. Many turns some movement..... On a sea trial at WOT, but i digress. Air in the line. ...

Hi Y'all, My wife and I just purchased a 1982 53' Hatteras MY. It's in generally great shape, but we have many things to learn still and there are various projects we'd like to undertake. Unfortunately, the local ship services center at Liberty Landing (Jersey City) is overbooked, and we're...

  17. Searchlight advice

Iím replacing a non-moving chrome factory searchlight. Was considering the 24V ACR RCL-95 LED (comes with one wired joystick plus a remote). I almost always drive during daylight with occasion nights on the hook so searchlight would be rarely used but I truly appreciate the importance of seeing...

  18. Anchor size for 58MY

I am wondering what everyone is using as far as anchor size on their boats. We are updating from our current CQR to a Mantus M2. Mantus recommends a 125lb but the Galley Maid Windlass guys think I should go with a 105lb. I would prefer the lighter anchor in case I need to haul it up by hand if...

  19. Intercoolers

I pulled my intercoolers for cleaning. It is a pretty easy job, 20 bolts and nuts of which 19 were very easy to remove. One of course was almost impossible to get a wrench on and required me to make up this tool to remove it. Just a normal boat job.

  20. Bad fire at Seaport Marine in Mystic

Not mystic seaport. This is a very old boat storage building very near the drawbridge in Mystic. Fire departments as far away as Westerly RI have been called in. Apparently the popular R36 restaurant has not been involved but a large area has been evacuated. I'm not sure how to post pic from...
