  1. “Restore” engine oil treatment

I’m sure to be flamed for this, but I wanted to share my experience with Restore oil treatment in my generators and main engines. When I purchased my boat I was having to add oil to my Northern Lights 12kw genset after every time I used it. In fact, it even shutdown once after 6 hours or so due to...

  2. “Opinions” on oil change intervals

Yeah, I’m asking for it. Opinions on hours to change oil and on Detroit’s and Onan generators. Capt Dave did the mains every 50 hours. Genny I’m not sure, but probably the same time as he did not anchor out like we do so genny matched hours on the mains. These days the generator has 600 more hours...

  6. “Crap Cans” for air box drains on DD 6-71s

The air box drains on my 6-71 T.I.s run into “crap cans” which are about the size of auto engine oil filters. The problem is that oil droplets blow out with the expelled air even when there is little or no oil in the cans. What arrangements do you folks have for your air box drains to...

  8. Zodiac Repair. Is this a bad idea?

On the very last boating weekend last year, I dropped the dinghy into the water and hopped in and just kept going down. the glue joint where the bottom meets the inflated sides let go for at least 3 feet. I was disgusted (and wet) so I just deflated it and put it away for the Winter. It's an 8 foot...

We bought a used inflatable over the winter and wanted to know if anyone paints the bottom of theirs. I plan to keep it in the water at our slip in NJ for the season so the kids can use it to putt around the bay in.

  17. Zincs, is less more?

I'm in the process of changing out the heat exchanger zincs on the 671ti's and wondering if I should maintain 2 zincs in each of the heat exchangers. I appreciate from other posts that loose zinc pieces can cause problems and like most things there are benefits and detriments. It seems that...

  18. Zincs Suddenly Going Quickly

My 53 SF is located in San Diego Bay. Usually the divers are replacing various zincs at a rate of about every 4-5 months. This month the shaft zincs were almost gone in 60 days. The diver asked a lot of questions about recent work done to electrical systems, but nothing has been touched...

  19. Zincs on 8V92 TA''s

I'm looking for the location of all the zincs on 8V92 TA's (not TI's) with the big cylindrical Sen-Dure heat exchangers. I have found five zincs on each heat exchanger but I find none anywhere else. Anyone out there have these engines and know if there should be more? Thanks.

  20. Zincs on 6/71 Naturals ??

I have 2 6/71 naturals on my 58 LRC. A mechanic told me I need to only put a zinc in the one place after the heat exchanger. He said to leave the other 2 with no zinc?? (one at salt water pump and one before heat exchanger). Is this correct. ???
