  2. Voltage Sensor

Anybody know anything about this? Making a clicking noise and setting off my AC power alarm on the helm. Pic rotated left for some reason. I am talking about the white sensor to right of the red in pic.

  3. aft deck hatch removal

Hello all, While refinishing the master stateroom, the overhead escape hatch is leaking with the rain. I am going to remove, rebed with butyl tape and re-install. Has anyone removed this hatch before and if so, how? Question - is the hatch simply screwed down or is it thru-bolted and do I have...

  4. Planning a complete electronics update on the 53

Our new to us '73 Hatteras 53 (well, waiting on the survey-sea trials) is going to need a serious electronics update. Currently it has no autopilot, a Standard Horizon GPS Chart 1000 C, a Furuno Echo Sounder LS-4100 and an obsolete Raynav-570 Loran C navigator, all of questionable vintage. Also, no...

  5. Cool My 1st Hatt - 1984 52C

Well, I bought the old girl from a very kind Virginia gentleman with a winter home across the river. It's the first time either of us sold/bought a boat without using a broker - and it worked out great. He had to sell because of a personal loss and was glad to see it go to someone he could tell...

  6. 44 tc deck rub rail

44 tc with a painted deck rub rail, at least I think that is what you call it. On the deck the the railing stanchions are screwed into what I would call the fiberglass toe rail on the outside of that toe rail were the deck meets the hull is what appears to be a 2 inch aluminum strip as part of a...

  7. sliding window seals & gaskets

The feathered/felt seals around the sliding plate glass windows to the salon and aft deck are shot. Does anyone have experience changing these seals and any tips, tricks or pointers on this subject or am I better off finding a glass guy that has done it before?

  9. Help removing wildcat

I am trying to remove my windlass, to repair or replace it. The capstan came right off, as well as the plate that holds the springs. However, the wildcat will not budge. Is there something I am missing? Is that I bushing on the shaft, or is it tapered?

I have five Perko strainers that I will offer for sale sometime soon. In the meantime, I am wondering if diluted hydrochloric acid can be used to clean them up? (Previously I have used phosphoric acid.)

  11. Aftermarket impellers

Has anyone had a good/bad experience with aftermarket impellers? My Detroit's take the Jabsco 17936-0001-p's. I have 2 new spares but was going to add a another set to the inventory. The replacements on ebay cost about $50 vs $100 or so for Jabsco's. I was thinking about throwing a set on the boat...

  12. Generator wonít start

Onan Geni. Hit start switch for 20 seconds, it does a split second crank then nothing. Pulled starter. Jumped with cables, it works fine. Rotated engine with wrench, it rotates. Put back together, same issue. Took boat out for 2 hrs, got back to doc, started like nothing was ever wrong.

  13. Water leak 1979 53 MY

I was on the boat for a weeks vacation and just prior to leaving, I lifted the starboard twin mattress in the master stateroom to change the sheets. I found the bottom of the mattress wet. I did have the boat washed and waxed and it did rain during that week. Just guessing itís leaking from the...

  15. 8D battery replacement suggestions

All, I need to replace 2 of my 4 8D batteries during this winter's layup. Wondering what you all use and have had good fortune with and also which brand you have had not so good success with. Lead acid, not gel. Thanks in advance!

  16. Possible new owner

Im looking at an older 56 Hatteras MY with Detroit diesels. 600 hours since last rebuild. My understanding is the starboard side smokes a little even after warming. I am requesting oil samples sent to lab for review during the survey. Should I be worried about the smoke? I have not personally seen...
