  1. Rope cutters

Hello all, Does any one have top cutters that they are happy with. We have a 2” shaft, 5” propeller hub and 1” between prop and cutlets bearing. Does anyone have one installed that you are happy with.

  2. Transmission Oil Dark Color

Miss Maggie is a 1976 58 LRC. She has Allison Model MH30 3:1 transmissions with oil coolers. While checking the oil level for a recent trip I noticed the oil was dark in color on my starboard side. It does not smell unusual or "burnt". It does not have a gritty feel to it. Oil drive pressure is...

  3. A/C Condenser Compressor cycles quickly....

I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times, but I have to ask again as I have a HVAC tech coming out in next couple of days to look at. I just launched boat few days ago and tested out systems, including A/C system. The compressor on a 10 year old Dometic R22 16,000 BTU condenser...

  6. Looking for replacement raw water strainer baskets

I have a 1976 Hatteras 48 LRC with old Gross Mech (now Groco) raw water strainers for the 4-53 Detroit Diesels. The baskets are deteriorating and I'm trying to find replacements. I've not had any luck with replacements going through Groco, Sam's or Fisheries Supply. They suggest replacing the...

  7. 6-71 Engine Details

My daughter and son in law recently bought an older convertible (38 I think) with 6-71s. We suspect that they are J&T 671TI engines but aren't sure. Only one engine plate is present, and its damaged, but we can read the S/N which is 6A0380585. It also shows a model # 10633303 or 10633309 for...

When I leave the boat, I shut off the breakers to non essential electrical items like lights, water heater, water pump and toilets. It's not very well lit under the stairs where panel is located and now that I'm getting older and my eyesight not what it used to be I've been struggling a bit,...

  16. Gauges

Curious if anyone has drilled holes in the lower bridge to install a wider gauge? I see the back of the panel is metal. This would be to install a new voltage gauge which is wider. I am a little hesitant to try it.

  18. Ideal Windlass problem

Hi- I have a Ideal APC 35 vertical windlass that has been a problem as long as I've owned the boat. The chain (3/8") doesn't cleanly strip off the wildcat and intermittently jams on the 'stripper' instead of falling into the chain locker. It of course does this at the most in-opportune time...

  19. SMX II Control Problem

CruiseAire system. The SMX II controller may have failed. Couple days ago I went to turn off the heat and turn on the AC (typical New England May day). The system would not turn off or switch directly from heat to AC. The only button on the display that did anything at all was the Fan Down...

  20. Electrical Selector Knobs

I have a 48 Long Range Cruiser. Two of the selector switches on the panel were missing knobs to turn the selector switch. I got replacement knobs from another LRC that sank in Ft. Meyers. Replacement knobs won't fit. The new knobs won't reach the selector shaft. What is the trick to these knobs?
