  4. Split alternators between 2 banks

My boat has 3 battery banks. All 12 volt. 2 4D mains, combined for starting. 2 8Ds for inverter and 1 group 27 for the generator. All banks charged by Victron smart charger. Generator has its own alternator. Currently the engine mains both feed to the start bank. I am thinking it would be better...

  5. Cockpit Mezzanine & Tuna Tube Winter Project

Ok, so trying to get my final plans together for two pretty major wintertime projects on SOUTHPAWS. I'll be doing both these projects in tandem so only one single huge mess will be made on the boat. Hope to finish both projects off before april-ish. Be forewarned, these projects may upset the...

  6. Air compressor dumb question..

I need to purchase a small 12v tire inflator for the car and just saw one that is both 12volt and 120 volt. Is there any reason I couldn't use this compressor to pressurize the onboard tank without having to start the motor?

  7. Phasor 20KVA Genset Heat Exchanger Endcap

The stainless bolt head that holds the end cap to the heat exchanger fell off through corrosion and water was leaking out. New 5/16" bolt purchased and some stainless washers. How do I seal the bolt itself from leaking? Any previous washer/seal also appears to have deteriorated. Is there an...

  8. Binoculars?

Broke my Swarovski binoculars on my last trip so no chance (hopefully) there is enough time to get them repaired before we leave Florida. Suggestions on a replacement pair? Copy that Randy?

  9. Engine raw water system

Question, on my DD 8V92, the raw water system pumps water through the inter cooler, fuel cooler, heat exchanger, through a pipe with a T fitting, into the shower head . The T fitting allows water out the side through a valve. What is the purpose. Thank you P.

  10. Screen Spline with a Sweeper Blade

My 63 MY has sliding screen frames on the salon windows. On the vertical edge the screen spline has a 3/4" sweeper blafe that seals against the glass to prevent insects from making an end run around the screen. I do not know if this is origianl or a PO add. Anyone have these and know a source for...

  11. Cracked Battery Casings

Hi All; Six year-old 32V 4 x 8Volt 4D battery set, three of the four battery tops are cracked on the starboard set. The Starboard alternator hasn't been working (I thought) so I just replaced it. Today while watering the batteries I found the cracked casing tops on three of the four...

  13. Raw water elbow configuration

I discovered a crack in the raw water elbow of both expansion tanks. Efforts to have them brazed have failed, it seems they are a brass over copper mixture. Brazing would be a temp fix regardless as there are several areas that are pitted around the Y fitting. Due to the severity of the pitting...

I am hoping that someone can save me from going crazy...... I had a bank of 32 v batteries going bad so as i decided before my trip they needed replacing (should be on a trip already and now stuck on the dock) Here is what happened that lead up to the problems. While installing the...

  15. Exhaust Noise?

First off I know the old 2-strokes are loud and I have no problem with that. However, one thing I struggle with is when I'm running at about 1300 rpm or above the sound from the exhaust is similar to the sensation you get when you roll down just one window in your car X10. I was wondering if this...

  16. Holding Tank Capacity 53MY

I'm assuming there will be some variations, but what is the factory holding tank capacity on a '75? Yes, I'm asking for Robby because he doesn't have a laptop at the moment. Brokerage listing shows 2, 50 gallon tanks. That very well may be as these things can get changed, but I don't remember...

  17. Furuno autopilot problem

We are just a couple of days from our slip in Jax, but I had to hand steer for 5 hours today due to the autopilot being unable to hold a course. Itís a Furuno NavPilot-711 and itís never been that great. When we got the boat it would wander one or two degrees to either side of the set course and as...

  18. Sweating exhaust tubes

Itís unseasonably warm here, probably 85 degrees air temp but the water is still cold, probably 50 degrees. The bottom half of the exhaust tubes are literally dripping with condensation. I never noticed that before.

  19. Remoting Galley Maid Cabling

I freely admit to a degree of boredom. Aslan's three head pumps are in her bow compartment. Since I have a spare solenoid, I've been rehabbing the pumps' connections and solenoids one at a time. They can get pretty corroded tucked up in there. The guest head pump's electrical connections...

  20. Winter Service, Injector re-build re-tip, coolant filter add

Heading down to the boat with the 15yr old driving, needed a distraction so figured I'd update this. On the list for this winter was a full tune up. Before we got ready for the tuneup procedure I ran a few tests on the engines, and really glad I did. These are 600hp 8v92 TI's The only...
