  2. 40 weight oil for Detroit's

My mechanic is recommending Delo 400 40 weight oil for my So Calif based boat.Temps being moderate, rarely 40's mostly 60F, what would the harm be in mixing 15/40 after only using 40 weight?I know on Aircraft we typically used straight weight oils but in more recent time, the advantage to multi...

Pulled the intercoolers after an exhaust leak and didnt like what i saw, turbos looked ok but rusty fins on the air side of coolers As we know these puppys arnt cheap to replace, which leads me to asking this question, I know that they cool the air in the combustion chamber for denser air and...

  4. Upgrading shore power service from 30 amp to 50 amp.

Have a 43 DC. Has anyone else upgraded 30 amp shore power receptacle and service to 50 amp. If so, did you rewire with heavier guage between the receptacle and breaker? Did 50 amp breaker fit in 30 amp shoreline breaker slot? Was there a need to rewire any of the connections in the box?

  5. Bridge Enclosure Visibility Issues- Ideas Needed

On my other boat, my entire bridge is enclosed by strataglass. It is a single station boat. So, when it rains, I have very poor to no visibility from the bridge. That is not good for avoiding lobster pots. Since the enclosure is strataglass, I cannot use RainEx on it. I also understand that the...

  6. Polishing

Do most of you wax after polishing with Finesse It? Also, any recommendations on size and brand of polisher? My son and I are wrapping up the bottom paint today (started yesterday). I saw a few other boats this size blocked about 3 feet off the ground. I think I am going to ask for that next...

  8. Old Door Locks Question

The striker plate on my cabin door has worn out and the door will not latch anymore. I know these locks are NLA, plus the door frame isn't quite straight and square anymore, so it looks like I will have to make a new one myself. The striker that was on it is not the same as the ones on the...

  9. Cruisair SMX II Thermistor test

Anyone know how to test the thermistor on the subject control system? My salon a/c control is giving me some weird numbers. Showing inside temp at 19 but set at 76. When I try to do the factory reset and adjust the offset it will only let me adjust it to 40 or something. Almost like its reading...

  10. Spray Rails on the 34C

During the season, my boat rubbed up against the finger pier. The results were: splash rail chrome trim popped off and the splash rail (wood) was damaged some. Now.... is the splash rail really needed? Can it be removed and a layer of fiberglass laid to cover the screw holes or just fill each...

  11. Stability of Flybridge question with new Hydraulic Swim Platform

After years of trying to improve my current crane mechanism on our 1973 53my, including rebuilding the crane itself, adding a pulley system to move my Amanzi tender( a Mercury Product) on and off the chalks on the top of the flybridge, I have finally decided to have Florida Bow-Thrusters replace my...

  12. Port hole hold downs

It rained a bit last week, and one of my lav portholes, with a few broken hold downs leaked a bit. Are there any imaginative way to fix these, maybe with a large fender washer? Thanks.

  14. GFCI failure at the panel and solution to fix it

So the fault breaker on Ships Service 3 panel decided to give up the ghost the other night. In reading this thread https://www.samsmarine.com/forums/showthread.php?12409-Ground-Fault-Protection& and talking to my electrician we've decided to bypass it and install GFCI's in the first outlet in each...

  15. Cruisair Heat stopped working

I am going to dig into this more fully over the weekend including model numbers but for now, here is the dilemma. My salon AC (three knob) works great in cooling mode. It is wired so that the water pump turns on and off with the compressor. When in cooling mode, both the water pump and...

  17. Hatteras 46C series 1 rebuild or repower?

Hi Gentlemen, I've read several threads about repower a 46C but I'd like to ask you some suggestions or tech specs about my idea. My hat has 8v71 rated @435 hp and it's time to rebuild them or repower. Honestly I don't want to rebuilt them, I need a faster cruising speed. My engines have aprox...

  18. O-Ring for Hynautic Steering Reservoir Fill Plug

It was really hard to find the correct O-ring for my Hynautic steering reservoir. Seemed nuts to have to pay $17 + shipping for a a whole rebuild O-ring set. So, as a public service to my fellow Hatteratonians, be advised that a #14 O-ring ($0.28) fills the bill. #14 measures 15/16 x 3/4 X 3/32".

  19. Hull numbers wanted

Just a suggestion to all members, thought it would be a great idea that you post your hull number after your signature. This way if you see a current boat with close hull numbers you can reach out to those members. I think it could bring the forum even closer together. This is what mine looks like.

  20. Hot Water Heater

While on generator, my water heater works fine, but on shore power, it trips the circuit breaker. I thought it worked fine at one of the marinas we stayed at on the trip down, but at our home marina, it trips the circuit breaker. The crew had noticed this on the way down here as well. I also just...
