  1. Loss of steering at the lower helm

Went to use Benedetto the other day and had no steering at the pilot house helm. Fly bridge worked as advertised as well as the A/P. Itís hard to tell the fluid level in the reservoir but it might be low. There is less then 10psi on the gauge so thereís that as well. Whatís weird is, no extra fluid...

  2. Trip to Keys

I am planning a trip to the keys during spring break (March 16th). I'll be coming from Melbourne, down the ICW to at least Stuart. What's the best route from then on? Also, if conditions are good, isn't the ocean back pretty economical with the Gulf Stream?

  3. Old Exhaust Shower Head

Below is an exhaust mixer elbows off of my starboard engine that I removed several months ago while working on one of my turbos. Obviously it has seen better days. I suspect the others are in about the same condition. At the time, I looked around for a set of replacements and was finally...

  5. Stand Alone Dehumidifiers- Good idea or not worth it?

Guys...I notice that I my humidity onboard tracked pretty much with the prevailing exterior conditions, especially during the winter when the ACís werenít running much.Since we live in Charleston, SC itís humid all the time so I got a stand-alone dehumidifier which measures about that which rolls...

  6. Air handler freezing up

Any idea why one air handler on our master stateroom would ice and not the other? Both are on the same compressor and seawater flow is good. I will mention that the last time we tried to use them as a heat pump the valve would not shuttle and it just cooled. The system was working well for weeks...

  7. Yachtfish livewell

I would like to see if anyone has come up with a useful purpose other than as a livewell in the cockpit. I use to sailfish semi-professional in sailfish tournaments with live bait. Do not plan to do that with this boat, however it has crossed my mind.... But has anyone removed the in deck livewell...

  8. Questions about overboard black water pump

We are in the Bahamas for the first time and I am soon going to have to empty my black tank. The first time I tried I neglected to prime the GalleyMaid pump (it had been unused for several years) and melted the rubber pump body. Luckily there is a pumpout here in Nassau and luckily I had a rebuild...

If the fuel pressure switch were to fail, what effect would that have on a DDEC system and the engine?

  10. 60MY Air Draft

I know this number will involve variables including fresh and saltwater, but Hatteras gave me numbers that have me scratching my head a little. To wit, height from the waterline to the top of the arch is 20í9Ē. To the top of the windscreen is 19í3Ē. Unless math has changed since I took it in...

  11. Looking at early 80's Hat 43 Convertible with 6V92's TI

Is there anything in particular that I should focus on when looking over this boat? By this I mean things that are known problems for this model. Tanks, moisture areas, bulkheads, etc. The engines were rebuilt with roughly 100 or so hours on them now. I love the lines and general appearance of this...

  12. fuel consumption DD 671 N's

I have a 80 model 43'FBDC with DD671 N's, I think J&T rated at 310hp. WOT is a honest 2500 RPM which is what they are rated for under load. My question is at what RPM would this boat need to run to be the most efficient under the following circumstances? I will be going upstream on the Miss....

  14. Staircase / Laundry Project 56MY

The laundry machines gave up the ghost, so it was time for a change. Had to remove the old unit with a sawz-all, but once committed it didn't take that long. As I contemplated the replacements, the configuration was in need of some updating. So, why not change the riser heights in the galley...

  15. 30v vs 40v LED lights

Want to replace existing overhead lights with new LED down lights. They appear to be pretty common in 10v-30v, while my system is 32v and most likely higher with the engine/gen running. Marinebeam has some 12-40v lights available, but the light temperature choices are not as good. Want...

  17. Anchor Chain Stop vs Pelican Hook

I have a Maxwell Anchor Chain Stopper that I intend to install. Lets says I am running 30-40' of anchor chain, then line. Can I trust the Chain Stopper to retain the chain safely, while underway, or is a Pelican Hook also recommended.

  18. Oil Cooler Line

I'm waiting on parts on the genny project and using the down time to replace a leaking transmission oil cooler line. I've got MG514c's going to 12v71ti's. I need to crack this fitting, but I'm unfamiliar with it. The nuts are 1.5 inches and the wrenches are 24 inches.. so I can do so damage easily....

  19. Sealing a Leaking Strut Fastener

1972 43' DCFB: I located a very slow leak at a nut, where it attaches to a though-hull bolt, which is at at attachment for a strut. Although slow, it accumulates 2-3 gallons over a weeks time. Took a long time to spot it! So for the time being, I was able to seal it by wrapping standard...
