  1. Shower sump pump has lost power

The aft shower/tub sump pump stopped working, it is not powered. There is power at the dc panel for the circuit, but no power to the pump or the manual on switch in the head. Both of the other shower sumps are working fine. Recently replaced both the pump and the float switch in the sump and they...

  3. Rudder packing

Opened my rudder packing glands yesterday and the packing was in good shape but it looks like the glands could take another layer of packing. It is standard packing and I have some of the gortex stuff, would you add a row of the gortex or get regular packing to add a row. Thanks, John

  4. DC Electrical Upgrade

I'm a little nervous coming out electrically here, so to speak, so go easy on me. I am planning a modest upgrade to our battery and charging system. I have attached a diagram that shows approximately where things are and will be located in the engine room of our 43DC. The inverter set up is...

  6. Steering system issue

So I recently started working on a 64' Hatteras motor yacht, after the previous captain disappeared on the owner. This is my first time taking on this role, as I was previously a mate for a tour boat company. I'm still very new to this level of boating, so my apologies for my lack of knowledge. ...

  7. Air conditioning pump intake hose

The 1.25Ē hose from the strainer to the pump runs over the shaft in the stbd ER. Itís never been a problem before but recently I noticed it had settled down and was resting on the shaft. IM GLAD I CAUGHT IT BEFORE THE HOSE FAILED. What is the proper fix? It doesnít look like there is enough...

  9. Lightbulb 1972 Hatteras 45 Convertible Refit

Thanks to SEVEN I officially signed-up as I'm working on a refit of 1972 Hatteras 45 Convertible which is located in Aqaba, Jordan. My father acquired her in 1983. Unfortunately he is 92 with dementia, but we have great memories together. The grand children are keen on a refit. I'm leading the...

  10. Trouble shooting electronics

I installed a used Lowrance HD5 today. I connected it to power, ground and to my existing transducer. Only 3 wires. Blue black and shield wire. It originally worked both chart plotter and bottom sonar. Now bottom sonar is scrambled and no depth numbers. Any ideas on why it stopped. I have...

  12. New house bank

Contemplating replacing three 8ds for my house bank. I pretty much always run my generator which powers a smart charger so probably donít need that much capacity. Thinking something to fill two 8d boxes. Does have to power my windlass. Opinions on a lighter option?

  13. New Starting Bank 8V71Ti

All; While there's a thread about re-inventing the house bank here, what about new battery technology for starting banks? I'm trolling for comments on using 16V racing batteries for the starboard starting bank. A few battery sales folk who love selling me 4D 8V batts are suggesting I try...

  15. Does anyone know the 12vdc CCA requirement for DD8v71 engines?

Hi All, Does anyone know the 12vdc CCA requirement for the DD8v71 engines? I did the search function and read about 30 posts about batteries with hundreds of responses and only found one Hatt owner referencing that Detroit Deisel required a 1900 CCA battery for the DD8v71. Is that correct?...

  16. How much raw water?

Can anyone estimate how much raw cooling water an 8V71 and/or 8V91 uses? Was talking to someone who has the emergency setup where they can switch from outside water to pumping from the bilge..... Was wondering how many GPH we are talking. Yes, I realize RPM makes a difference, so lets say...

  17. Dogs on Boats

We brought our pug on the boat for the first time, and he got so anxious (panting and hyperventilating) that we had to take him home. We tried twice, same result. Yet he has stayed at a strange house (kennel) before and no issues. Must be the constant slight movement of the boat? Has anyone else...

  20. Repairing Water Tank on 65 Hatteras Sportfish

I have a 1988 Hatteras Sportfish that has a 400 Gallon water tank, that leaks, it has baffles in so I can't put a liner in it. There is no excess to it other than a small section at the top. I am looking to see if anyone has any ideas on what I could do to repair the tank.
