  1. 24 Gallon Coolant Swap in 28 Minutes

Just broke my own record doing a coolant drain and refill aboard Aslan. Some may recall I replaced the HE and oil cooler petcocks with ball valves some time back. No surprise, draining was a snap with not a drop of the 24 gallons of port motor's old coolant missing the buckets. What's...

  4. In the wall?

Getting ready to hang a flat tv mount in the aft starboard corner of the saloon. Is there some kind of framing in the wall? What’s the thickness if the plywood paneling? Do you think it’s stout enough to hang a tv on? Thanks?Bob

  6. Shore power/electrical question

I have a 37C. Stayed on the hook all weekend using the generator. All was well. Came back to dock, hooked back up to pedestal, turned on the salon a/c and it would not turn on and was making a weird sound. A couple of outlet breakers tripped in house also. I immediately shut off the 2 breakers on...

  8. siezed turbo

Last time I ran the boat we cruised at 1075 rpm for a few hours, all was well. Coming back in I went to run her up the last few miles as I usually do and the starboard engine didn't want to spool up and blew a bunch of black smoke. Hmmm, must be a turbo. So today I removed the air cleaners to get...

  10. Enough is enough--need Detroit mechanic

I am in desperate need of a reliable Detroit mechanic to complete a 12v71 TA cylinder job in a 55' Hatteras. PLENTY of head and working room. I have been as patient as I can be for the last year trying to get my vessel repaired. The first mechanic fell ill and was unable to complete, understood....

  11. Fresh water flush

Ok I am totally confused. If you put a hose fitting on the zinc hole on the water pump, close the sea cock turn on a garden hose and run the engine at idle, will this be sufficient to flush the engine or will this not be enough water flow or will the hose pressure bend the impeller blades? I am not...

  17. Bilge Pump check valve issue

My a/c condensate sump and shower sump did not have check valves in the bilge pump discharges when I purchased my boat. Last year I installed one in my a/c sump because I was tired of water flowing back through the pump and standing pretty deep in the sump. After installing it sometimes the pump...

  18. Onan Genset Oil Pressure?

I have an Onan MDJF 15Kw genset and was wanting to see if anyone knew what the normal operating oil pressure should be? At 1800 rpms with no load it is showing just under 40 psi on the gauge. Assume the following 12V components are powered by the same two, new, Grp 26 batteries, and either there is a bad cell(s) somewhere or the charger stopping charging. My money is on the charger. It lights up and the needle indicates charging.... Have to wait to check. As the voltage steadily...
