I am looking at a 1983 48 Motoryacht, and seriously considering a purchase. Could anyone give me some guidance on past issues with these boats, or problems to look for. I know they are slow boats with the naturals, but any comments on ride and handling would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a 1982 48 MY with 6/92's that I bought last fall. Other than needing a complete re-building, including engines, I love the layout. Handles well etc. We opened up the interior quite a bit by redesigning the galley and using new under the counter refridgerators as well as opening the bulkhead between the dinette and the main salon with "spindles". Are 48 Motor Yachts stable at rest/ at anchor? or do they rock alot due to their height and solid FRP hull. I am loking at buying one. I inspected one the other day and noticed that it was mooving around alot in its marina berth. The day was very windy and the fuel and water tanks were less than 1/4 full which would not have helped but it deed seem to move alot. How do you find the boat vs other motor yachts?

I have a 53'MY, 55k lbs ...they don't move too much, i would expect the same of the 48'. All hatteras hulls have a relative flat deadrise aft, and a keel from the props forward, so they don't rock as much as a Bertrum which has a deep-v hull. Check this site for the Brochures on the 48 MY.

I bought mine in 99, love it. It cruises at 15kt about 32 gph. Handles nice in wind with the keel. I have 6v92's. Call with questions at 313-220-6081 - Doug

I'd suggest finding one WITH stabilizers. They cost about $35-45K to add on, but only add $10-15K to the price of a used boat and EVERYBODY that has them knows they're worth it. It's worth keeping looking.

We are glad we bought a 48 instead of a 53 , You have more and better space and the cook is not down in kitchen .

We live aboard and that's easy. Normal maintenace is easy to fix

The 48my's are very roomy and economical boat. I run mine around 10kts mostly and stabs are needed at that speed. Not fast boats but rock solid and easy to single hand dock. I have mine on the market. If I get the price I want I'll be looking at 58YF.

Lessee, upgrade from big and heavy to BIG and HEAVY...lol P.s., there is a decent 58YF for sale at Keenan Marine, Grand Haven MI. Owner wants to sell, so can, get this, buy a 70' Hatt...wouldn't we all.
