Genesis,

Does Delo 400 40 weight meet the ash and zinc requirements of DDC? I believe it shows CF, but I don't know about the -2 designation.

On my last oil change my mechanic told me I should be using DELO 100 instead of 400 because 100 is made for 2 cycle.

delo 100 is correct, there is user notice on the delo websit explaining the issue. mike...

It was reformulated a couple of years ago and no longer carries a Cx-2 rating.

The OLD Delo 400 is ok, the new is NOT. Use Delo 100.

Detroit Diesel also has a specially formulated "Detroit Diesel" branded 2-cycle diesel engine oil in straight 40 wt. May actually be Delo 100 in a different kimono, but it's what I use in my 8V71TI's.

yes, the DD branded oil is what I use. I get it from a local DD dealer here in miami for jsut under $ 40 / 5 gal pail. It's not a marine place, they seem to cater to trucks...

... is Mobil/Texaco XD-40. Same stuff in a different bottle. We have the XD-40 available here from the fisherman's coop in bulk - bring your own pails - saves 'ya some moolah.

I've been almost exclusively been using Shell Rotella 40w for over 6 years in my 8V71n's with about 3300 hours on them. I saw a pair of 671TI's with about 1600 hours taken apart a few years ago that looked almost new. Except for normal wear parts, Atlantic Detroit said they were exceptionally clean.

You just have to be sure you're using the right Rotella for 2 strokes.8o

I also am using Shell Rotella 40W in my 453N. I hope this is OK? I just heard this was a high grade oil and was able to purchase it from one of our customers. Any comments are welcome, pro or con.
Thanks,

How about Texaco URSA HD40? That's what I was told and I've been using but I never checked it out.

.... is cool - I've checked the specs on it. The big deals are 40wt, (no multigrades!) and sufated ash under 1.0%....

Texaco URSA HD 40 in 6v92 TAs since new in 1979 in 43C. 2050 original hours; purrs like a DD kitten should.

I just changed the oil in my 12V-71s and did some checking into URSA SAE 40 oils. There is a ¨Heavy Duty¨and a ¨Super Plus¨. I got a recommendation at a marine supply to use the ¨Super Plus¨ and followed up with a call to Covington Diesel in NC who supplied my engines to Hateras. They said to go with the Super Plus but also recommended Delvac made by Mobil. He said it was developed directly for the Detroit Diesel specs. Does anyone have any info about Delvac? I think I will start using it beginning at my next oil change, subject to further research of course!

I've been using Mobil's Delvac 1240C in my 6V92's and Onan gen set for the last three years without any problems. The previous owner had been using it so I stayed on the same program.

Will be curious if you can still source Mobil Delvac, since their merger with Exxon. They cleared the pipeline of the Delvac, not very ceremoniously, and now only market the Exxon XD-40 (see post above). Also, I know a major Hatt marina who uses the Texaco Ursa 40 in the 2 cycle DD's.

Also see post that straight 40wgt (no multiwgt) and low ash is mandatory for the DD 2 cycles, due to their exhaust at ports, not through valves in the heads. Finally, the 40wgt is needed due to high pressures in the valve train.

Much good info on both the DD web site and Mobil.
