Bought an 81 53 Classic over the winter. Spending a lot of time on the boat and have many questions.

First, I'd like to get some keys. Sometime between sea trials and delivery the keys dissapeared. I have no ignition keys, no sliding door keys, and no key for the aft deck wet bar (important to us because we have a 1 year old who likes to get into everything).

Any suggestions for getting replacement keys?

Try contacting Hatteras directly. They are very helpful and still support the older fleet. www.hatterasyachts.com (http://www.hatterasyachts.com)

for the side doors, you can install hooks at the top. this is better security than the original locks (at least the early ones) and beyond the reach of a 1 year old... it's also much quicker to open if you need to get out quickly... :-)

Matt,

Join the 1510 Club at www.HATTERAS1510CLUB.COM (http://www.HATTERAS1510CLUB.COM)

They have a Rendezvous in St Michael's MD Sept 9 to 12.

About 30 boats are there plus many owners who fly and drive in.

I have a 53MY and Sam's has the keys. The sliding salon door key is a remake of the original and the collar and shaft are too small, but it works if you remember to only insert the key to where the collar would stop it. I got one of those, and I made another from "skeleton keys" I got at antique shops to grind down to match my one original. I can take measurements from the original if you want. The rear salon door needs a key and lock replacement, also available from Sam's. It's the kind with a long screw to remove the lockset from the door.

By the way - if you click "Sam's Marine" at the top of this page, the salon rear doors lockset with keys is pictured on their home page right under the "a" in "Marine".

Sure Art, the one-year-old is now 12, so the bar access will be a different kind of problem in a few more years. :-)
