Well, this is not a hardware post, but goes to those who know the Hatt's are good ride in a blow.

See the latest Motor Boating about a circle cruise in Atlantic, St. L. Seaway, Grt Lakes, and Mississippi in a 44' custom yacht.

They start the latest installment describing a bad seaway they got into...very jumbled and no fun. They don't call it out, but it is the Gray's Reef Passage at the North end of Lake Michigan, where the Lake intersects with the Straits of Mackinaw.

I have been throught there over the last 50 years, and it is always waves three different ways, plus the sea height is always understated by NOAA. Finally, you need to be able to differentiate closely the weather reports that are fine tuned to geographic areas up there. If you off by 15 miles on the forecast location, you can get bad weather you did not expect. The run to Beaver Island is big water and can be rough.

Remember, when the last three 700' freighters sunk in Grt Lakes storms, they were the "largest" of their type at the time.

Just a fun post...the Great Lakes are not ponds...
