Mystery Bulge

The cockpit sole on my 1983 46C had a bulge on the port aft corner about 4" from the lazzarette hatch. I cut it open and found a 1/2"steel plate about 8 " square with a 1/2" tapped hole in it that was open on the underside. The stbd. side has the hole on the underside also. I looked at a 45C and it has the holes under the sole also. What are they for? I assume to pull from the mold? Does anybody know? Dave

Our 37' has it, was there on our 32' also. only on port rear corner of cockpit. Never looked at it from under deck.

these plates some alum. some steel are in all convertable models. they were used to lift and set the cockpit into the hull.

I've got a buklge in the deck of my 32'
on the starboard side toward the rear.
I always thought that it was a defect.
I'll have to look underneath.
