Just scored this awesome chair off of a Stephens to use as a helm chair.

First off. Sorry about the sideways pictures. This came off of a 1960's vintage Stephens wood boat. It is actually an original fight fishing chair that is missing the hardware to hold the pole. It was owned by one of the members of our cruising yacht club and he restored it. We were docked across from them and it was on the aft deck. I teased the owner about it going missing in the middle of the night as it was perfect for my boat. This morning he offered to sell it to me at a steal of a price. I couldn't resist and he put it on my boat. I love it.

Perfect fit. That finishes off the helm perfectly. As others have said (I'm jealous.)

My father was given 2 of them. One is on his boat. The other in my garage for me to clean up as a helm chair for the bridge. I have the rod holder hardware too but I'm keeping it in the garage in case I change my mind on where to put it.

Wonderful but does anybody have a brand for these chairs? I'm on the lookout for such a thing on the second-hand market but I don't know what to put into a search- I turned the internet upside down last night but found nothing that looked even close. Thanks!!

That is really cool looking....especially the base and foot rest !

I'd make sure it's secured to the deck when your underway. Looks pretty high and top heavy for that base.

I agree with rsmith, it does look top heavy. I recently replaced the carpet in my 53MY and there was a metal anchor point screwed into the deck at that location centered on the helm. I assumed it was there for just that purpose.

I think if I had that chair I'd find a way to use it in my house. It's too big for my boat, but that doesn't stop me coveting it.

Hi Ann and Jerry. Is that from Racoon?

The reason it appears top heavy is the base was not really meant to support a helm chair but is actually meant as a bar stool.

Although at least this one has 7 "rings" in the base rather than 6 as shown on the 8SB2 bar stool base...apparently Release can customize these however you want it if you throw enough $$$$ their way.

Hi Ann and Jerry. Is that from Racoon?

Hi Steve,

It came off of a 42' Stephens called Sea Witch. Classic wood boat out of Wllow Berm.
