repower or overhaul DD 653 (or 853's) ?? need advice

I must make decision to repower vs overhaul current 1966 DD 653's. want cleaner, quieter, faster performance in my 41 TCMY. anyone with info on cost, complexity, and performance much appreciated.

Well, depending on how many hours you have on them, you might do fine with overhauling your current engines...if you look in Boats & Harbors you'll find several shops that will exchange out Detroits like yours. Or you could have someone inframe them in the boat, which is not as good an overhaul and also makes a nice mess inside the boat. But exchange Detroits are not expensive and are easy to find. If you want to go faster, you might be able to go up to 8v53s without having to change a lot of hardware in the boat, and you would go a little faster, I think.
