Why were our boats built without insulation on the side walls and behind the headliner? Will be doing an interior refit on my 1975 42C and would like to insulate.

When we redid our berthing about three years ago (for the third time) we insulated everything. There is a company in Florida (I think It's Mikes, but any upholstery shop should have the stuff) that sells foam backed hull liner material that works great. That and a little additional foam made my sweating go away. The two staterooms used to sweat terrible on really hot days, now they are cool and dry.

I will say this, you need two guys and a pneumatic or electric stapler to be able to pull it tight and fasten it so it looks good. A lot of lying on your back pulling with both hands while someone tacks it up. But easy enough to do if you are willing to take your time with cuts and measuring.
