On a recent visit to Montauk with my 43' Motor Yacht I met up with a fellow who had a similar boat. He said his boat had a Hatteras option that ducted the air conditioning to his enclosed after deck. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to see it firsthand. Has anyone heard of this? If so, how did they do it?

is yours a split system or self contained? if split system, you can add additional evaporators. would be better to put an evaporator unit and cut small holes for cooling lines than cutting big holes and running duct work. i have a name of a good custom ac manufacturer in stuart fl. he makes his own evaporator units and can make them fit where ever you want. let me know if you want this info.

Thanks for the info. I guess I have a split system as the compressors are in the engine room. I'd appreciate any info you could provide.

Thanks again......

the capacity of the evaporators has to match the condenser/compressor so you probably can't simply add an evaporator for your aft deck. you would probably need to add an entire system (extra condenser in the engine room and evap. in the aft deck.)

also, keep in mind that your aft deck is like a greenhouse and will need a lot of cooling...

THE COMPANY IS OCEAN BREEZE, THEY HAVE A WEB SITE.

www.oceanbreezeac.com/ (http://www.oceanbreezeac.com/)

you could go to a larger compressor for one of your units and split it out or add another unit.

i found that the prices at ocean breeze are much lower than others, they use quality components. basicaly use the same compressors as everyone else but he makes his own evaporators. also he can set up the controll box any way you want. talk to Joe at ocean breeze, he is the engineer.

we plan to buy his product in next few months, sooner hopefuly as our units are both dead

so far I can't say that I'm that impressed wiht Ocean Breeze units. I have 4 16ks on my boat, installed a couple of years ago bu the previous owner.

- one compressor had to be replaced last month...
- I had a wire melt down on one of the low press switch saturday night... lost cooling in the mid/fwd stateroom.. when I looked at the unit the wire from the low press switch had melted down, insulation gone, burned marks on the side of compressor and electrical box. I replaced the wires, unit is working, but low press seems to have been damaged so I need to get that replaced before I can really use it again.
- in the master, the 16k either pops the breaker or the high press switch when restarted after it has been off for a few hours... takes a couple of attempts to get it to run. A/C specialist tested it and finds the efficient marginal, compressor appears on the way out.
-no revercycle heat which is nice to have, even if we only needs that a few nights a year in So FL.
-mines don't have 2 testing ports... jsut one... forgot if they only have the high or low press side, but one is missing. According to the a/c guy, he cant' get the whole picture when testing because of that...

maybe it's jsut bad luck but whenver they fail , I will not jsut replace compressors but theh entire condensers for marineairs or cruiseairs.
