I have a 72/73 53motoryacht. I have re carpeted several times but never noticed if the galley steps are mahogany. My step down into the passageway between engine rooms has beautiful mahogany I varnished & polished. My wife would like me to do the same. Any idea what lies beneath the carpet........anyone ! Hate to loosen the carpet to look .....its real tight.

My 1978 53MY has plywood, which has since been floored over with finished oak flooring.

i also have carpet there, can't look it's nice and tight. in the companion way, under the carpet i have some old vinyl that looks original... fake marble.. very 70ish... i'm probably to replace all that, considering amtico teak n holly like floor, looks good and i think that's was some of the builders use this day.
carpets between the engine rooms is a pain...
