Rebuild?

My left 6-71N needs a rebuild...starts hard in cold weather, unless block heated. Even if heated, smokes for 10-15 minutes or so before emitting limited smoke or stops smoking.

My mechanic of choice says rings have "cracks", when observed at the inspection ports.

Anyone have an idea, if I wait if I might experience any catastrohic failure? Oil consumption seems "normal" (1-1.5 quarts in 5-10 hours and never overheats.

Thoughts? (get over it, spend the money, etc.).

If you know there is a problem, FIX IT NOW !!! It will only cost more later. A boat will always get even with you if you neglect it. Fred
