  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
So what's going on with this thing? This was the second day and we've yet to see the first post. Maybe they've sequestered the students. :D

Apparently they're having too much fun without us. I doubt we'll hear anything from any of them until it's over. Then they'll all be big shot Hatteras experts.

I dunno, I caught a couple of them lurking last night, but not posting. That of course assumes those who said they were going did in fact make the trip. I hate I had to miss it, but maybe they'll do it again.

Hatteras U was excellent. I am trying to catch up after over 3 days out of the office. Little time yet to put together a report.

Internet access was a problem at the Inlet Inn and I didn't have much chance to log on until last night and was kind of tired. We stayed pretty busy, starting class at 8 and by the time we ate it was too late to figure out a way log on.

Roger and the people who worked with him did a great job. Most of the faculty were long time Hatteras people who were a pleasure to be around. The Hatteras owners were likewise good company.

Jarrett Bay is a truly impressive operation. I think they will do the school again and I would recommend it without reservation.

OK, I can only speak for myself, not all 13 (I think it was 13) of the attendees. I had a GREAT time and thought it was very worthwhile. The depth of knowledge from the presenters/instructors is beyond compare. Of course, you would have already have guessed that because these guys were there building 'our boats' at the factory when they were built.
The logistic support for the 'course' was great, e.g., nice classroom, meals, snacks, handout freebies, refreshments, etc., all super! The tour of the Hatteras factory was interesting, numerous big boats in various stages of completion on several assembly lines. It was fun to see the actual assembly line my boat moved along so many years ago.
The 'guest' presenters were also great. Paints, coatings, shaft machining, fiberglass repairing, bow thrusters, etc were all covered by knowledgable people doing these things everyday. Ample time for questions, both specific and general in nature. We received classes on our 12pt alarm systems, electrical sytems, water/waste systems, generators, steering, details of how our boats were built, layup, stringers, painting, etc.
It was GREAT to have Steve and Jeremy from SAM's in attendance throughout - another source of VAST knowledge and experience!
The chow (sorry soldier term) was GREAT!! Tours of all of the other facilities on the Jarrett Bay campus portrayed Bottom painting, PropSpeed coating, new boat construction. Actual hands-on demo by Caterpillar of the Zues? control system, their repair/repower shop, etc.
Roger Wetherington, Bruce, Steve, Kendra, I can't remember all of their names, they did a FABULOUS job of hosting our visit, our questions, admin support, etc. Lodging at the Inlet Inn was excellent and reasonable downtown across from the city docks.
Are we experts now - heck NO, I have more questions than ever. But, I know a ton more than I did and I have a great collection of names and numbers for help in the future. The classmate Hatteras Owners were of course simply OUTSTANDING!! What a great group of nice guys to meet and mingle with!! As always, its the classmates and staff which made it great - the fact we discussed at length my favorite subject was also great. Glad the Redwings won again. Weather was poor, but no one cared much.
Let's hear from the other attendees! I am sure I missed numerous items of interest - still tired from driving.

I will add my voice to the chorus here.

Speaking for myself this event was terrific. I cant say it any better than the prior posts but I would recommend this to ANY hatteras owner, large or small, older or newer boats.

Bruce and Roger were astounding in their encyclopedic knowledge of all our boats.

From memory they could diagnose and recommend (from decades of first hand experience) repairs or installations.

For example, I am considering installing Glendenning Shore Power units on my 58 MY and Bruce, while driving his truck, completely laid out the installation down to where there was space behind panels etc.

Jarrett Bay is great facility as well. Makes you realize how awful the yards are around here. I know this sounds like im shilling but If someone is refitting an older Hatt, you have to ask yourself why wouldn't you use a company that has the foresight to hire two of the most experienced individuals there are when it comes to our boats.

This is a total turn around for me BTW I would not have considered adding the cost of a trip from NY to NC to the cost of a re-power but now I think it would be hard to NOT justify it given their institutional knowledge.
