I will have video... I can't wait for the sea trial but also to have her back in the slip and then work on the interior. The master is a mess, between the storm damage on port side and all the holes and cut outs for the exhaust, Rudder work etc. I even need to raise the bed 3" because of the new mufflers. $2600 a month on the hard plus $1300 for my empty slip is painful

Pascal, noticed you didn't install surge tubes in the new exhaust.
I'm assuming the riser height is pretty high???
Btw, it's a lot more enjoyable looking at your photos than actually going through the repower process yourself.
Still think our last repower was the way to go for us, it changed the way we use the boat, even 16 years later.CRICKET

Re: 53 MY Repower, started!
No need for surge according to the guys doing the repower and the exhaust specialist. It a all high above WL and we have mufflers with baffles

Great.
It will feel great to get the boat going again with the new iron, and everything else you changed.
When it was time to do our initial start up on the CATs one of the engines wouldn't start, can't remember why
It took the CAT guy probably an hour, which felt like all day, to get it going, so we could take a quick first spin.CRICKET

Re: 53 MY Repower, started!
Hats off to you for this huge undertaking! Love reading the thread and seeing your pics. I have debated doing this on our boat and have always been told that to re-power I'm looking at at least $250K...and I think the number is very close when all is said and done. So many details and unknowns...but what a fun and rewarding project!!
I think you made a good decision to go with a little more power for a little more speed...well worth it.
I may take the plunge on a new purchase of a '89 67 CPMY...thinking of using the new CAT C12.9's
Looking forward to seeing pics on the final product and hearing about performance.
Great job so far!!

You will love the 8.3s. Hopefully the newer ones aren't as smokey as mine (Denso injection pump). I have an 8.3 on my RV and it doesn't smoke at all.
How are you doing the two sets of gauges for upper and lower helm? I only have one set on my boat and I'm going to do a Chetco NMEA2k conversion.FTFD... i drive a slow 1968 41c381

Re: 53 MY Repower, started!
It s a huge project but worth it. Hopefully. The problem is that we are so busy that we keep wondering when we ll get to use the boat... cant complain about soending so much time in the exumas and getting paid for it
What is making this project even bigger is that i m not just doing a repower and cleaning the engine rooms but redoing oretty much everything incl steering, electrical, layout etc... removing all the old thru hulls (12 of them i think... ), new hardware for the remaining ones, etc.
engines and related hardware were about $110k and i m up to about $40k of labor so farPascal
