I was out the other day and the fuse on the panel in the engine room for my bow indlass blew. I took it out and it was a cnl 100 amp fuse. I had a spare fuse which appeared to be rated the same so I put it in and the windlass worked fine. The fuse I put in was an anl 100 amp fuse. What's the differnece, if any, between a cnl and an anl fuse? Thanks.

Windlass Fuse CNL or ANL

Re: Windlass Fuse CNL or ANL
CNL/ANL is just the companies' internal designator for the type fuse. Bussman makes ANL fuses; Littlefuse makes CNL fuses. They are interchangeable as long as the rating is correct for the application.
It would be embarrasing to explain how I know that so I won't!

Re: Windlass Fuse CNL or ANL
Mike - thanks. Funny thing about his little problem. The windlass blew the 100 amp CNL fuse inside the panel but somehow did not trip the 70 amp breaker on the hot leg. Go figure.

Dirty connections at the fuse holder will do that. Clean the fuse holder and maybe bend the fuse clamps together if its a friction holder.
