15W-40??? Isn't that problematic in DD 8-71s?

I have a yard with Hatteras experience saying they use 15W-40 in DD 8-71's. They say they never heard that DD should be Straight 40.

Should be Straight 40 with low ash, correct? Like Shell Rotella SAE 40 T1. Not 15W-40T4?

FYI- They also said 90 weight gear oil in the Alison.
I know that one is wrong.

Yeah Phil I wouldn’t trust using 15w40 in my 871’s or a shop that recommended it.

Side note, looks like tractor supply has Rotella T1 SAE 40 Motor Oil, 1 gal for 15.95.

NAPA will get it for you in a few hours and has a lowest price guarantee. I can't remember exactly, but think it was about $140 for 15 gallons. Of course, that was in February - and things have certainly gone up since then.
