    Re: NY Restrictions Issued Today

And now for some good news.... the national DAILY RATE OF INCREASE of deaths has been steadily decreasing since the end of March. From a high on March 28th of 31% we are now down to 7.4%. In fact the ABSOLUTE number of deaths over the last 24 hours was below that of the last 6 days.

It is slowing, and slowing fast. And that's what it's supposed to do, according to Farr's law of epidemiology.

Now we have to start lifting restrictions. As you saw, even at the height of the crisis politics was part of the process. Get ready for the biggest BS show you've ever seen as we debate how, when and where to start returning to "normal", which by the way is a long way away, in fact the world will never return to the way it was before.

I hope that our "leaders" (no particular party, ALL of them) can get over themselves and get together with the rest of the world community and put a PROPER plan together for the next time this happens, as it will.

    Re: NY Restrictions Issued Today

I personally find it frustrating that no onebappears to want to recognize the perfidy in the governmental assurances that masks were not necessary for anyone asymptomatic. They KNEW wearing masks was beneficial but wanted to limit demand. Once demandbhas been met they now say; " Yes. Good idea. Wear masks!" Duh
The problem with overcoming inertia is resisting the energy generated. You expend a great deal of effort to convince the stupid amongst us that there exists a REAL danger from contact and once they are in fact convinced......you have an almost overwhelming task to then convince that same motley crew that its okay to now in
termingle. And that's the hurdle our economies now must overcome.

Sweden has a more aged population than us... so, Ceteras Peribus, I would expect a higher death rate.. but things are not equal, Sweden has not taken the draconian measures we have. So if our "leaders" are to be believed, Sweden should be experiencing a death rate grossly disproportionate to ours... much, much higher.. but they are not. The Jury is still out, and there will never be consensus on our actions...

Could be. I hardly think the restrictions we are experiencing in the US could be described as draconian, IMO. It is interesting, however, that Sweden's neighbors all appear to be faring much better after taking significant actions early.

All things can be equal when making a point just using one parameter. Sweden's population is older than ours, but also far less diverse. So if one subtracts that factor alone, Sweden's mortality from COVID-19 (caucasians to caucasions) is significantly higher. Then there's the urbanization factor, i.e., hotspot, comparison to the US; no real comparison there. And, Sweden has a comprehensive healthcare system which has, more or less, 100% participation meaning Swedes are, as a people, generally healthier and more likely to have ready access to medical services (5 years greater life expectancy). No doubt there are a host of other mitigating factors that cut both ways, and I'm not advocating for socialism.

I don't want to be argumentative, but there's more than one side to this story. When the medical professionals I know (I know plenty with my wife having retired two weeks ago after 47 years with the largest system in SC) tell me they themselves are worried, that's significant for me. When I, and people I know, are only being seen via telemedicine versus office visits, that's significant to me.

So I see some of my friends becoming more and more conspiracy theory inclined--not referring to anyone here. My first wife, a retired RN, told my pregnant daughter (late Feb.) the virus would never stand a chance in the US because our healthcare system was the best in the world because that's what the President said. I see people upset about not being able to go to church. Wouldn't these same folks have advised a sick friend to stay home and not pass it on just a short while back and for a common cold?

A good friend too mentioned this is all a hoax and no different than the flu. I asked him if he got a flu shot this year; he said he had. Then why didn't you get a COVID-19 shot as well? That's the greater point, to me. Our best and probably only defense is to worry less about lost recreational opportunities and other inconveniences and more about pulling our share of the load, IMO.

    ..............

Say it isn't draconian to the millions of Americans that are trying to get registered and collect unemployment but can't because many states' systems are overwhelmed. Hoax/conspiracy is not proper term to describe it, as that shows ill intent: Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"

Ultimately, more will likely die from suicide and untreated medical conditions because our preventive healthcare system has been shut down. I believe the 2017-2018 flu season killed around 80,000 people and we never heard a peep......

What is insane is that even the medical sector is affected with layoffs due to the cancelation of all non emergency procedures. I saw an article this morning about hospitals cutting doctors pay. More insanity

North Korea's Christmas present. Just for a moment assume all the numbers are true. China, North and South Korea got off easy. The US is the worst hit. Of course the numbers are likely not accurate.
