Electronic controls upgrade

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
I had the same boat. I was going to do the electronic controls also. There are options, but most go with Glendinning. Smart Actuator I. Glendinning advised against the Smart Actuator II for those engines / gears. About $2k each. Control heads about $1k each. Cables, brackets, installation? They also have a wired remote that is about 1/4 the price of the dockmate. I have heard the dockmate system is good. I might be a little worried about the membrane switches over time. I think much cheaper than Yacht Controller. You can remove your synchronizer and sell.
Thanks,
Tony

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
My 1271s with zf transmissions were upgraded to MicroCommander electronic controls. Sync easily but it takes a bit of getting use to in terms of throttle sensitivity and the 2second delay. All and all I prefer microcommander over the old Glendenning slave setup.

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
I may upgrade to electronic controls at some point, if i do i will use Morse electronic controls... i had them on a boat i used to run. Reliable, no delay, reasonable price. Really liked them

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
I'd not look at anything but the glendinning eec2 for new engines. I lost a bid on a repower to a cat/ZF combo with microcommanders and separate trolling valves on price. I quoted higher hp cummins with the better controls.
After a few weeks I get a call asking if I knew anything about the microcommanders chrome nornlasting and how to deal with the trolling valves.
I have worked with the people at uflex before and would certainly look at their product too.Scott

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
Pascal, I to have been considering electronic control but had not thought about Morse, however I just checked a number of sites and all said they were discontinued, to bad they did look pretty nice.

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
Are the Morse electronic controls now being sold as Seastar?
http://www.seastarsolutions.com/prod...onic-controls/
Another option is Uflex.

Also, you can never go wrong with a Glendinning product.Last edited by Cricket; 02-26-2019 at 10:31 PM.

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
Not familiar with th Seastar system, looks different maybe an evolution.
Indeed, Morse Teleflex Ke-5 looks to have been recently discontinued. Too bad.Pascal

Re: Electronic controls upgrade
The one thing the Glendinning engineer told me was to make sure the unit had enough force / torque to handle the throttle spring on the 12V series engines. That is why he suggested the Smart Actuator I over the II. I didn’t really know what he was talking about so I took his word for it.
Thanks,
Tony
