We are going to survey on a 48' Series I MY, 1981, with 6V92 425 HP engines. Would any one know what the OEM prop size was?

Call Hatteras - they should be able to fax you the "vital statistics" sheet which will have this (among other info) on it.

You could pm forum member "rblase", He owns the same boat. His recent survey would have the prop size. Or call Hatteras, or SAM's.

Re: Prop sive for 48' Series I MY
Hi,
I have a 1982 Series 1 48 MY and really love it. It also has the 6/92's. I did have new props for it about 2 years ago and I believe they are 26 X 23. I'll be at the boat Mon afternoon (it's on the hard right now) and will check for sure. Will let you know.

Bob,
If you ask someone with a similar boat what props they have, also ask about the gears. Make sure you have the same reduction ratio as they do since this affects the prop size.Sky Cheney

Re: Prop sive for 48' Series I MY
I checked and my props are 26 x 22 with a mild cup. Allisons M 15's. Props are Nibral not Bronze. Bronze flex more under load and the pitch may have to be changed. Check with Steve McPhearson (Sam's) or call Michigan Propeller for tech assistance.

26x22 with M15s on 435s sounds about right.
I run 26x25s on 500s with a #2 cup on my sportfish. You're about the same weight, same gears, but less power.http://www.denninger.net - Home page with blog links and more

Re: Prop sive for 48' Series I MY
Bob, I recently purchased (Nov, 2005) a 1983 48' motoryacht in the Chesapeake Bay regtion. The props had recently been repitched from 26x22 to 26x20 (4 blade). The transmissions were Allison M15. On the sea trial at wide open throttle with full fuel, water, and seven people aboard we tacked up to 2300 RPM on the port engine and 2250 on the starboard engine and were showing 17.1 kts. on the GPS. The engines were 6v92TA's 425HP with 1,913 hrs. on the port engine and 1,957 hrs. on the starboard engine. I would be happy to share my experiences with you. I can be reached at 301-873-7074 (cell). It's a great boat and I hope your survey goes well.

Bob, I forgot to mention that Sam's Marine web site in their archive section has a great boat test article on the 48' hatteras motoryacht which was done when it first came on the market and the original brochure from Hatteras. The boat test has a complete set of engine performance curves.
