The antenna extension has no more exterior coating and the fiberglass is exposed. I'm wondering what to paint it with vs a new $300+ replacement.

Re: VHF antenna extension painting
Ameron. Be careful with the fiberglass it will get into your skin quickly. I’d consider a new urethane unit. Zero maintenance.

Sand it first. I've used Interlux Brightsides with very good results.

Re: VHF antenna extension painting
I just replace them. It's not worth the time and effort for a piece you can replace for $150.
If it's the 2 part antenna that's different but for a simple 8 foot extension mast why bother.Scott

Agree with Scott; I just replaced $50 them using some online outfit that offered free shipping.
If painting works for you consider 2 part urethane “2K” clearcoat for $27 on Amazon.

Agree, with above. Replace, you will spend more time than they are worth investing.
