    Re: Air handler freezing

AC compressor for my main salon turned into a Popsicle this weekend so I thought I'd do a search on this forum for info. This post is very helpful!

I'm with Scott and others in that there's a cost of doing business and failure to recognize that cost and the value proposition brought by people offering a product or service just means that eventually that individual is not going to get their money's worth.

Also I don't think it's a fair assessment to compare the investment and cost of someone providing services or a product in any industry to that of healthcare. Our healthcare in this country like other nations around the world is subsidized by the government, health insurance companies, religious organizations and hospital networks to name a few.

It's an apples to oranges comparison.

What business isn't subsidized by the government. The tax code is loaded with deductions and tax credits, ad nauseam. I agree a fair analogy can't be drawn between healthcare and marine air conditioning service companies. But, they are both clearly subsidized to some varying degree by the government. Going deeper, who pays the cost to train that HVAC tech at our state's technical colleges, for example? Same people who subsidize the education of medical professionals, right?

I wasn't aware insurance companies subsidized healthcare; I thought they just subsidized themselves.

    Tax credits?

Business tax for the city- Yes based on my assets and inventory each year
Business tax for the county -Yes based on my assets and inventory each year
Tangible tax for the county-Yes based on my assets and inventory each year

So if I keep tools and inventory I get all these "credits" to pay.

The largest healthcare provider in the area is a religious based not for profit. They do not pay many of the taxes I do. They do not pay employees the same way I have to.

Apples and oranges for sure. One is largely competitive and the otheris largely not. I have great respect for both life saving medical professionals and competent marine service providers. That said, we are ranked 37th in quality of healthcare by the WHO and we spend the most per capita by 50% over the number two spender and 2X the top rated country for quality of healthcare. Lots of great and hard working doctors and nurses but the system as a whole is broken, or as a bare minimum a lousy value compared to other approaches to this important subject.

In addition there are service providers here that are apparently deeply frustrated by taxes, subsidies and so forth so the small business man is not happy in many cases.

So the small business engine of the country and one of the most basic services in our country needs help and we don't see focused and productive action in these areas. We need to be focusing on the 500ish individuals that are not doing their job and stop beating each other up here.
