Just wondering if any knows
What type of transmission fluid goes into my 1989
1989 65 foot Motor yacht with 1271 and ZF Transmissions any help would be greatly appreciated

My guess would be the same oil the engines use but I'd call zf to confirm.

You should be able to find the manual online if you dont have it. ZF usually engine oil but straight, not multi grade. Could be straight 30 or straight 40

Use straight 30 in mine; think that’s what has been recommended here before.

Mechanical surveyor on my boat said use same oil as engines and recommended Rotella 40 weight so thats what I use. I have 12v71 also

My ZF manual says 40W, same as my 12-71's

What is the model number of your transmissions? That will help. Chances are one of us has the same transmissions and a relevant manual.

Well that's the point isn't it? Someone asking for advice who doesn't break a sweat to provide the basic information is setting himself up for getting the wrong advice. ZF makes lots of models taking various lubricants.
