    If you use laquer thinner or acetone make sure the rag is a white or non dyed one. The dye will leach out of rag and smear all over your paint

    Yes I have had that happen. Mineral spirits is least aggressive, lacquer thinner more , then acetone, which flashes quick, but will destroy some finishes as seven stated. Cold to the touch but very hot, sounds like it needs a wheel on it. Also if it is true Imron, none of the above chemicals should affect it, except a colored rag with the above. It should be as tough as nails.
