I'd listen to Walt on this one. Unless you plan on doing something stupid (like making that trip without me), hiding a gun just before you cross into enemy territory should be fine. Just stop skeet shooting once you exit the Carolina border.

Better to be judged by twelve than lowered by six as a general rule.

If you think it is perfectly fine to carry on board with it locked up, all papers intact, think again. Ask Capt. Paul Giusti.

Since some of us don't know Capt. Paul Giusti, perhaps you could tell us what happened.

Jersey is like a local karaoke bar. Many people there with no clue how bad it really is.

I am surprised no one was aware of this.

    Re: Guns & Boating

Now THAT was a disturbing read.

Would the persons arrested be similarly charged if there was only a shotgun on board?

    Re: Guns & Boating

So, explain this. Cops are allowed to lie to citizens. Therefore, citizens can incorrectly reply to questions or omit information?

Because, if one is going to jail anyway, one may as well make them do their job and get a warrant, etc.

    Re: Guns & Boating

I believe the CG can search your boat without a warrant.

    http://www.overview.uscg.mil/Authorities/

"The Coast Guard may board any vessel subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, whether on the high seas, or on waters over which the United States has jurisdiction, to make inquiries, examinations, inspections, searches, seizures, and arrests for the prevention, detection, and suppression of violations of U.S. laws. 14 U.S.C. § 89."

So if you lie, the pain intensifies from what I have heard.
