    Any info on this 53MY

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1983...#.WqHlTWK9KSMI have been aboard "Enuff" and it's nice but the 8v71's have 3500hrs and don't look well maintained. Owner said there is low comp on one cylinder but has been fine for the last 20yrs. The decor thru out not my taste but ok. No electronics at flybridge station except a depth sounder and not much at the lower helm, one new ac unit 3 orig blue units all having the dial controls. The galley is original except for the flooring and the heads as well. 16k genset w 1600hrs and no stabilizers. I remember seeing pics of the Brigadoon Mike sold and WOW that was nice and I think sold for $185k ?? This boat was orig listed at $185k and still on the market for a year or so with a recent price drop. With the knowledge on this site I would like your opinions on this boat as I'm considering making an offer. I have been looking for 2+ yrs and now I'm ready to buy. The Mrs is due to retire this year and I'm about 5-6 yrs away and plan on cruising the coast when I do. Also if I can get some recommendations for a good surveyor for the boat and the Detroits. I heard of two guys who are top shelf Detroit guys, Frank Butts and Tom Hugg?? I called them last year to check schedule etc but never heard back from either. Thanks in advance.

I know that photos don’t show everything but she looks very nice to me. Interior is easy to change. Love the dining room table. Have the motors and hull surveyed. If motors need rebuild it could cost 50 to 60 more. However 3500 hours isn’t that much if they have been maintained. Good luck.

You want Tom Hugg to do the engines.
Yes he will be slow to respond but it is worth it.

You also need to get SEAERIC (on this forum) to comment on this I bet he knows the boat.
Eric will second Tom Hugg as well.

That would be Eric Horst of Bayport Yachts he is an expert on these Hatteras and probable brokered more of them (including Mike's boat) on the Chesapeake than anyone else.

I'm not sure where this boat is located. The broker is in Md but the boat is documented in NY. She is listed on YW as being located in United States with no specifics. I have not been aboard this boat nor was I familiar with it prior to seeing it here. I do tend to keep up with the boats for sale in Maryland and Florida and a few in between. As a comparison, Mike P's 53 which we sold last Spring was about as nice as they get. We asked $199,000 and sold her to the first "looker" for $180,000. The galley was updated, she has Amtico flooring throughout, a newer Northern Lights genset, the engines (Tom Hug surveyed) checked out as "near new" in compression etc. The exterior paint was perfect and there was almost nothing on the hull survey findings. She was not stabilized. In the final analysis she was a true bargain at $180K. Here is a link to the specs and photos of Mike P's SOLD boat as a comparison: http://www.bayport.biz/boat/1980/hat...or-yacht/1494/

Boat is wet slipped at Annapolis marina and was brought down from Port Washington Ny. I had planned to see it there along with another in RI but broker said he was moving it south then it popped up in MD. It's not a bad looking boat and my main concerns are the Detroits. I don't want to get hit with the expense of overhauling shortly after purchase and yes I know things just break sometimes. I'll look for Huggs info I have it somewhere. How about a recommendation for someone to survey hull, are there any Hatteras specialists so to say.

Over 200 views and not much response. Come on guys I'm looking for everyone's opinion on price, condition etc etc. Any good surveyors in the Annapolis area ? Any thoughts on the one cylinder having low compression ? I'm also looking for a captain to run the boat to Cape May then another to my slip on LBI. Which would be a better route, down the bay or thru the canal from Annapolis ?

Re: Any info on this 53MY

As far as the bad cylinder goes, you need to have a known DD guy advise you on whether to do a
complete OH on the engines or just worry about the bad cylinder. Personally, I think just doing the
bad cylinder is kicking the can down the road and you will be paying for a complete job later.

As far as the best route to LBI in NJ from Annapolis...... I did that trip several dozen times over the
last many decades and by far the best way is through the C & D canal from Chesapeake City to the
Delaware Bay. Continue to Cape May then through the Cape May canal and through the Cape May
inlet to the Atlantic Ocean. North to Barnaget Inlet (good idea to have someone on board with some
local knowledge for this inlet) then on to LBI. The other way down the Chesapeake to the Ocean will
add at least another day to your trip and you will be off shore all the way to Barnaget inlet. Delaware
Bay can be very "sporting" at times so check your tides and general weather closely. The University of
Delaware used to have a program that you would be able to participate as to real time actual sea
conditions. It worked very well....you reported at various time intervals your Lat/Lon and sea state
and they in turn would give you real time same info from other boats along your route.

As far as information on that boat goes it seems no one is familiar with it. We could make some stuff up if it would make you feel better.

Re: Any info on this 53MY

I'll go look at the boat if you want, I am in Annapolis. I'm happy to give you my impressions of her, but keep in mind that they are only my impressions and it doesn't substitute for viewing the boat yourself AND getting surveys.

As to the one low cylinder, the engine more than likely needs majored. DDs will run rather well with a great deal wrong with them. Not forever, though.

Thanks again to Jim for his offer, and anyone's input. I am making an offer and was looking for opinions good or bad so go for it.
