Re: Does anyone know the 61' CPMY in Vero Beach?

    Kilos not pounds.

An 8v92 marinized is not even close to 2000 lbs. Closer to 4 or 5k total

    Just a quick eye test

    Which one sits higher?

    Which one has more bondage?

    Which has a lower cog.

I don't have the specs for the 8V92 but they can't be that much heavier than the 8V71TIs which are 3430 lbs. that's 3000lbs lighter for the pair compared with the 12V71s.

Not sure which gear they used on that boat but my ZFs are 300 lbs lighter than the Allisons. Each.

So yes, that boat it lighther but not to a point where it will make a difference

As to SF vs MY, obviously there is a difference but add a full tower and two guys at the top...

    8v92 marine is 4400lbs. 6v92 is 3300

2 guys and a tower don't equal the extra height of the center mass of the boat or the windage. Even big guys who don't climb towers.

Thanks for the input, I didn’t think to search for marine 8v92 weight. Be that as it may, the PO that did the repower took the boat as far as the Caribbean on more than one trip. If there is any instability issue, it did not seem to be a show stopper. There were many Bahamas trips as well....

I think we might go for it if we can come to terms on the price.

Spend the time and money to get it checked out. Just because it made it this far does not mean i5s set up right. If the stabilizers fail it couod be a game changer.

Scott makes an excellent point. I have a friend with a 60MY with Wilcox stabilizers. He was crossing Lake Michigan when the seas really picked up. One of his stabilizer fins went hard over and got stuck there. He couldn't go much over idle and even then the boat listed badly. His wife tells about the gunnel dripping below the water on several occasions. They were really scared but the boat made it.

The point is, you want it to right itself if something like this happens and it ends up laying over 60 degrees.

Things never break at a good time.

The a.c. does not go out she. It's 70 degrees.

The hot water heater never dies when your on vacation. (Unless it bursts)

The roof never leaks during the dry season.
