I would like remove the water cooled a/c units and install mini split (air cooled) a/c units in this boat and thinking of using the area where the vents are for the extra unit. Seems this area is just an open vent? Thoughts? Warnings ? I would put a top unit in but really do not want to cut a hole in the roof of a dry boat

Using 1966 TC vent area for A/C

Re: Using 1966 TC vent area for A/C
Those vents are open to the space between the saloon wall and hull sides, but also open to the engine room. I suspect if you could fit the split AC evaporator unit in the space you would significantly restrict airflow to the engine room - increasing its temperature. If you have diesel engines restricted air flow is not good.. The evaporator units discharge hot air, some or all of which may be drawing into the engine room, further increasing its temperature. Of course, if she is a dock queen maybe that won't matter to you.
