Re: what prep and primer to use on engine components?

Bob,I just stripped a bunch of metal on my port side gear working on my oil pressure issue. Hate the problem but the good news is I found some heavy corrosion on banjos and some low lying piping. It was great to be able to clean up the rust and treat with ospho. Probably pull the pumps and pipes to do a proper prime and paint. Without the ospho, clean metal shows the beginnings of rust in about 2 hours.

Is Rust Bullet any cheaper or better than the POR 15 line of products?

Can't comment on price, but Rust Bullet has much simpler application process. POR-15 I think requires more prep and 2 parts.

In doing research a while back, I think Rust Bullet is basically some fancy paint they use to paint bridges and water towers lol.

POR 15 make an engine paint, though, I've used it, it is single stage, and very durable. Just don't get it on your hands. It takes WEEKS to come off.

Your comment reminds me that one must not get the Rust Bullet on their skin either. I think it was 1-2 weeks to get it off my forearms!
