If you have Detroits you should use Delo 100, not 400. John

Never use 400 in your Detroits. Only 100. Hopefully we caught you before you put it in.

But if you have ZF gears that take 40 Wt it’ll be fine. Just need a 4th pale to fill them both up.

I use 100 in my Detroits but it is a SERIOUS struggle to find it around me, other than West Marine @ $130/5g

Find your nearest Chevron oil distributor. They will order it from TX. No freight if it rides on their regular shipment. Lead time for me is usually three weeks. I pay $67 or so per pale.

NAPA has a good oil that meets DD specs. There are stores everywhere. Last year I paid about $72/5 gal bucket. They are fairly reasonable on filters too.

NAPA oil is Valvoline, designed for Detroits and easy to find.

A post from Bobk way back when

Low ash (<1.0%) is preferred for the two stroke engines. Detroit has a PDF on this but I could not find it. Remember, two strokes need straight 40 oil.

This information is a bit old, but may be good. Shell Rotella 40 is at the upper limit of the ash spec. I've used it, but switched to NAPA 75118 (Valvoline) as it is well below the spec and I can easily get it anywhere.

Mobil Delvac 1240______.80% (if you can still find it)

    Delo 100______________.85%
    Texaco Ursa___________.85%
    Shell Rotella__________1.00%
Valvoline Fleet Guard Plus SAE 40 also meets the 0.8% spec
