    Re: 53 MY Repower, started!

The last time we did a major overhauld on our 8V71Ti on our 58 YF we took them out with a A beam. We separated the engines from the trans. and put them on a high capacity cart. We rolled the engines out to the aft salon and it was picked up by a small crane. They did reinforce the floor from beneath wit wooden beams since the weight of the enginews would bend the floor. We did try to strip the engines as much as it was possible to reduce the load. Your aproach with the A-Beam is a valid one. The cummings weight considerable less so you will be ok. Good luck and keep posting I hope to follow yours steps one of these days.

+1 on the pulling it out with 3-4 guys --chain it, wrap it up and walk it out. Done it a bunch of times. I thought we were talking a DD.... Pat

The engine is gas and we have he intake and heads removed already. That still leaves about 5-6oo lbs to go. The engine builder wants the old engine or at least some parts of it for the new engine. That puts me in a bind for time as all the boats are supposed to be out of the parking lot (winter storage location) before Memorial Day, which I will not make as it is.
What model is this? I thought you had a 41TC. How would the hardtop and windshield have to come off? Lift the engine hatches in the salon. Directly above that is the cabin top in front of the windshield. Cut a hatch, lift them out. What am I missing? This is not a forward pilothouse motor yacht like a 53,58,60MY.

    Re: 53 MY Repower, started!

Those fins look heavy with 3 guys on them. I just changed seals in my Naiads and lifted the fins back on by myself. I think they weigh about 90lbs.

Whats up with the prop size? What is your gear ratio? Most later 53MY's came with 28x32's.

    Re: 53 MY Repower, started!

The fins are pretty big at 6 sq ft but not that heavy. I moved them around the boat by myself. They just had two guys lifting them in place and a 3 re on the nut and torque wrench

The ZF are 2:1 ratio but the C series are rated at 2600 rpm instead of 2300 for the DD. The Cummins dealer did the prop and shaft calculations with help from Frank & Jimmy prop in FLL, they ve done many repower. We ll see what happens That why I decided to redo my spares and then once we know what we have I may get new ones

The fins are used so we re just going to put bottom paint on them.
