More progress. It's been a bit slow as it took quite a bit of time to cut down the stringers and make the new engine foundations Stingers have been reglassed, hull has been reinforced for the new stabs and the beds are in place. Should paint later this week and get the engines in. First stabilizer dropped in place too

    Re: 53 MY Repower, started!

Why did the stringers have to be cut down? I would think that new brackets could have been made to just drop the engines between the stringers without cutting them down. Or are the engines wider than the stringers?

Looking at the stabiliser in hull fitting, there does not seem to be a wooden block used, or am I mistaken?

How did you reinforce the hull and to what degree?

Did stabiliser brand allow some margin of error when fitting up? (My Vetus stabilisers needed to be fitted to within 0.5mm which took a lot of time to set up.)

    Really interesting project!

Crankshaft centerline and reduction gears dictate where the engine has to go. Are you going to drill and tap the rear motor mounts? Doesn’t look like you can thru-bolt them. Make sure you have a clear shot over the hole for the drill.

    Re: 53 MY Repower, started!

The new ZF gears are angled down. The Alison's are straight so the DD were set pretty high on tall stringers. The new engines wouldn't have fit mounted between the stringers and that would have raised issues with access.

Stabilizers going in. Flange wasn't in yet on that one so the actuator is sticking out...

The cut out shows the hull reinforcement we did, almost doubling up the thickness, extending from outboard stingers and up 4" along the hull side and about 4' long On top of that they re glassing in a wooden block under the flange
