I am new to Hatteras and diesels. I love this site.
Looking at a listing today I saw the following statement: " ... SHE IS POWERED BY TWIN 6-71 DETROIT TURBO FRESH WATER COOLED INBOARDS ..."
I emailed the broker his response was "Engines are a closed system for internal cooling"
Like I said I'm a rookie but is this true?

fresh water cooled?

Re: fresh water cooled?
Almost all diesels are fresh water cooled / closed loop. Raw water pump pumps water into a heat exchanger to cool the engine coolant circulates by circulation pump. Think of it as wet radiator. Usually The raw water also runs thru a fuel and transmission cooler. It a discharged thru the exhaust to cool the gases
