My 1987 36 Sedan Cruiser has a deck mounted scooped engine room air intake with a hose that goes to the top of the engine room. It is an obvious seawater catcher. Note that I also have two scoop vents on the hull side, one with an engine room fan and the other as an exhaust. The fan and exhaust hoses go to the bottom of the bilge.
The boat originally came with gas engines and a previous owner installed CAT 3116 diesels. I'm thinking that the deck scooped intake might have been designed for gas engines. I'm considering removing the deck scoops and covering the holes. I am also considering cutting the fan hose so that it is pulling air from the top of the engine room.
Please provide input.

Re: 36 Sedan deck mounted engine room vent
Turn the vent around. You don't need blowers pulling from the lowest point but you may need intake air.
