The World Health Organization publishes a hardback text called "International Medical Guide for Ships" that is very complete---400 pages plus. Costs $100 plus from them---$4.00 from abebooks.com. I have used it while cruising in the Caribbean. The book also lists required medicines.

In the past (1970's) I have as Captain/owner of a documented vessel been allowed to use US Public Health Services in US ports and they would give me the required written prescriptions to stock my medical chest. I do not know if this service is still available.

In our marine world it is even in US waters often that 911 or CG help is not going to arrive. We need to "Be Prepared".
