Interesting quote in this video. Dick Avery, the years long Chris-Craft designer, claims that the early fiberglass designers did not know how thick to make the material so they rationalized that mahogany planks were 3/4" thick and that is where they would start experimenting with the thickness of fiberglass hulls. Makes sense from a seat of the pants perspective.
