Not a steal but this boat looks to be in top shape with recent rebuilds, nice paint, interior, Slane vents, tackle center etc. I'd opt for the QSM11's too but that boat had an ask double of this one.

I meant "dated" engines, not dead engines. Sorry. Just saw that.

I know the 43 isn't as fast as the contemporary 45, all other things being equal, but what is the different in cruise and WOT speeds? Are we talking about a knot or two, or a bigger difference?

    Re: 1983 43 Convertible

My 79 43C has 435hp 6v92ta engines. With a light load, I would cruise around 17 - 18kts and top out around 21kts. Loaded up for an offshore trip, with 4000# of ice, 800 gal of diesel between the mains and my bladder, 6 big guys, food and bait, I cruise around 15 - 16 and top out around 18kts. The subject vessel claims to have 500hp 6v92ta engines, which would push it somewhat faster, obviously at a cost of more fuel. I've never heard of 500hp 6v92ta's, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Our 45 with 550HP 6V92's On our last trip fully loaded for the Bahamas with 4 adults, 5 kids, food, ice, snorkel gear, etc, and a dingy. 1950 20 knots 2000 21 knots WOT 26.

    After we lightened up 1900 20 knots 1950 21 knots, 2000 22 knots. WOT 27.

    Below 1900, at say 1500, 1700, 1800RPM etc it's 1 knot per 100 RPM so 15, 17, and 18 Knots respectively.

    Re: 1983 43 Convertible

Krush has some type of agenda.
I have a 1981 43 C with the same engines as Mr. Bradley. She's a great boat. The 45 has larger engines...more hp our of the same block but in most respects is an identical boat with a larger cockpit. It does about 2 kts more than mine. I burn about 35 gph or slightly less at 2050vrpm. I've had her since 2002 and have travelled thousands of miles from the Great Lakes through the Bahamas.
I know nothing about the boat under discussion but the price is low. A nice 43 was sold in Ft.Myers last year for just over 70,000.
The usual story...thorough sea surveys of hull and mechanics and sea trial.
If the boat is sound, you won't be unhappy.
    Sheesh!

Think about it...$62,000 asking for a floating condo. My 21 Whaler cost more!!

He came here asking for opinions. I've looked at a lot of boats over the last few years. Just giving mine.

Search the forums, many have data where the 45 with more length runs same speed or faster with same fuel burn. My friend had a 43c and he even upgraded the injectors and it was still a pig. Also, a 45 will be easier to sell. But if the price is right and boat pristine, go for it.

Also, if size isn't set on 43, look at the 46. The 1980's 41c people say needs a bit more HP than stock to get living, but it's a great sea boat. And of course the original 41c (one of most efficient hulls out there) and 42c....but that's probably older than desired.

I think the original hulls on the 41 and 53 were among the very, very best anywhere made by anyone. Trade off's are to be found everywhere, but these hulls hit most of the high notes, more than others.

That's for sure. The originals may have been wet riding boats but my 280 hp per side gets about the same cruise as a buddy's 42 with 450 per side and I burn 15 gph less ( low 20's vs mid 30's)

If my 41c had a queen stateroom, cummins 6.7's and a modern layout she would be the ultimate in that size
