    Re: Florida in the path!

Extreme south Florida (miami dade) will be fine... Problem will be north boca Raton/Palm beach

So far, the storm is remaining very compact with only a very small area of hurricane force winds. I've just gotten news and seen pictures of the Exumas, even though they were on the stronger NE side and just 30nm from th center of circulation, damage is minimal with only a handful of boats damaged in Gtown. Staniel Cay reported the docks appear to have suffered little damage but very lucky considering how close it came.

Th weather station there peaked at around 90kts.

Calm winds in miami right now witht sun almost peaking thru. We re going to get the typical showers and gust associated with rain shower.

Stuart and up are the concern, but it all depends on how close the small hurricane force wind field makes it to the coast

Compact is good and these storms generally become more compact as they intensify. Last report I heard had winds at 120kts and reaching out 60 miles. Storm is still intensifying as it moves north. Even a slight shift in the track further East will be a big relief.

    Re: Florida in the path!

Actually, very south Florida will be spared based on current projections. We are very worried here in the "nook", St Marys GA. They are projecting the surge to be higher as it hits Camden county. Even a 4' surge will flood the town. As of 6 pm today, all incoming lanes to beaches and islands will be closed.

The subs from here in Kings Bay base were sent to sea yesterday along with their escort surface ships. Mayport Naval Base sent half their fleet to sea. The P3 & P8 planes & helicopter squadrons from Jax Naval Air Station were flown out to other bases.

We're now under mandatory evacuation, but I'm staying. Prayers for safety to all in the path...

    Re: Florida in the path!

Left my home and boat in Vero yesterday morning. All the boats at my marina , Loggerhead Grand Harbour, were totally prepared as well as could be. House on barrier island shuttered and prepared.

Leaving the lines properly adjusted for the surge was troubling. Lots of lines, lots of fenders/balls. Deck and bridges stripped bare. No one was taking this lightly.

Marina shut down all power and water this morning according to their plan. When I left traffic was OK. I am sure by the reports that today it was a bit chaotic.

All I can do is watch the TV from Tampa and hope for the best.

    Re: Florida in the path!

Miami dodged a bullet. We did the best we could for the boat "just in case" and then went across the street to The Mutiny in a condo on the 11th floor with a balcony and window where we could watch the boat. Much to my surprise, a lot of folks from our marina did that. I really liked doing that. Whatever will be will be, and I spared myself the worry of being on the boat, unable to get off if we needed to do so, as well as the stress of worrying about every creak, bump (if any) and gust of wind. We really enjoy The Mutiny, anyway. Too bad the doors to the pool and hot tub were already shuttered. I've been toying with the idea of buying one of these condos as an investment next time the real estate market crashes.

I'll be watching the storm and praying for those North of us who are not as likely to be as fortunate as we were this time. We have friends and family up that way.

BUFFALO GAL'S in Titusville, God help her. We did everything possible to prep her yesterday and went to our home northwest of Orlando. Now we wait and pray.

    GO EAST. GO EAST.

We're pretty much stuck waiting. No way to get out of the way.

Bill let me know how you fair. I'll do the same. I'm told I may not be able to get home before monday. Not a good feeling.

My sister and her family are in Ponte Vedra just outside of Jacksonville. New house that's supposed to handle up to 150 mph winds. She needs to stay as she works at a local hospital and is on the team to cover after storm emergencies. Hoping for the best for all in Mathews path.
