On a 1985 53MY I was told by the prior owner that the gage on the dash measured pressure, my mechanic told me it measures the tempter of the transmission. Can anyone tell me which one is right and what should the proper reading be?
Thanks Orion

transmission gauge
pressure, I think it should be betwen 120 and 150 psi in gear and a little less in reverse... check the DD owners' manual. if you don't have it and nobody knows off hand, let me know, I'll look it up

tranny gauge
It's definately pressure. Ever notice that it comes right up to operating range when you start up? Temp gauge wouldn't do that. Operating pressure is 130 to 155 psi in forward and 110 to 150 in reverse.
