Thread: Aft Deck Doors?

    Aft Deck Doors?

I'm finally going to replace the bone crusher Home Depot door installed by a PO. IMAG01571.jpg

I've looked through the brochures and searched the site. Can't seem to find a good example of what "original" Hatteras aft deck doors looked like. I believe they were teak French doors before Hatteras went with the sliders and that's what I hope to emulate.

If anyone has a good example or two it would be great to see a photo? Maybe I can even source some slightly used ones as opposed to having them made. The width is 36" total (so assuming 2 18" doors).

As always, many thanks in advance for any insights...

Original on the 58 may have been a slider like on this 1979 58.

Yes, the glass slider was original to the 58 MY.

    From the SAMS brochure archives:

If you are not hung up on originality a set of teak doors may look more traditional.

Good grief! Who picked that sofa fabric? Alfred Hitchcock?

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. I'll see if I can have some made that come close to this. Not crazy about the slider, and the one piece door takes up way too much space when it is open.

Doubt you will find a cleaner, more original '58 than this:

Looks like a framed glass door that's hinged on one side.

That is not original at all. The whole aft bulkhead is custom. The 58MY had an open back deck with only the sides solid.

Kind of funny as I ran across a listing the other day that showed a 58ED. Did they ever build such a critter? Nothing on one in the brochures section on here.
